Modell's Ticket Giveaway Night-mare vs Boston Bruins

So, sometime during December I made my way to Modell's and bought over 50 dollars worth of hockey merchandise.  No problem, it made nice X mas presents.  In return Modell's returned me a coupon for 2 tickets to be redeemed at the Bruins Islanders game last night, January 15th.

There were droves of fans there with free Modell's tickets all clamoring on the coldest night of the year to get their Islanders' tix.  I got on the line at 6:25 and had to wait until 6:55 to get my tix.  When I got closer I overheard what the delay was caused by.  The tickets came in 2's (meaning one voucher was for 2 tix) and people logically assumed they would be together.

Yeah, I know, how dare they assume their two free tickets be next to each other (sarcasm), especially the family in front of me that was decked out in new Islanders gear, had a several vouchers and still  had to buy 5 tickets on the spot because 3 of them were kids and the parents couldn't reasonably let their 8,10 and 11 year old all sit in different areas.  The delay was people being forced to buy tickets or leaving as they learned of the consecutive seat issue.  Some stood in the freezing ticket booth foyer and had arguments with the ticket vendors (I can still see the ticket vendor in my line throwing her hands up in the air to the customers, acting out how it was out of her hands to change the ticket situation).

I told the family in front of me they should just go inside with the free tix and then find suitable seats somewhere.  They were worried though and didn't.  They bought the new tickets.

I wasn't worried though, although my wife and I ended up with tickets in different rows we still ended up sitting together for the entire game near where our seats were supposed to be just by staking claim to some empty consecutive seats.  I know.  How could there be empty consecutive seats when they wouldn't give them to us at the booth? There were plenty though all around from the looks of things.

Say what you will about this, but there either was some serious mismanagement at the ticket window or it was a scam.  We're all New Yorkers here, and the answer should be obvious.

On a side note, these where supposed to be 50 dollar tickets.  They were  5 rows off the back wall directly behind the Islanders goal in the first period (section 334).

Who in their right mind would pay 50 dollars a ticket fore those seats?
