Buffalo Sabres v New York Islanders

Yesterday was not a good day for sports fans of two teams, in particular. The New York Islanders lost to the New Jersey Devils in a Halloween matinée 3-2 in overtime while the New York Mets dropped game four of the World Series to the Kansas City Royals 5-3, falling behind three games to one in the best of seven.

But alas, it’s a new day and each of those teams has a chance at redemption this evening. The Islanders return home to face Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres at Barclays Center after a strange – to say the least – game yesterday.

The Islanders, save for a slow first ten minutes, played really well the final 55, almost their best collective effort of the season but could not come away with the extra point in the skills competition. Cory Schneider made some terrific saves, especially a late glove stop on Kyle Okposo with two minutes remaining in regulation. The Devils were held to 33 ATTEMPTS, not shots, but attempts. An outstanding defensive effort against a team that was red-hot offensively coming into the contest.

The attention today turns to the health of captain John Tavares, who missed yesterday’s game with illness, being sent home after he arrived at the Prudential Center so to try to contain the spread of the virus around the clubhouse. At this point, I’d say the superstar is doubtful to play this evening.
