Let’s face it. The New York Islanders’ season is long from over. Although many fans tend to overreact when the team loses, there’s more than 60 games remaining on the schedule.

Now, if the Islanders stay the course and make zero moves (behind the bench, in the front office, on the ice), it appears unlikely this team will qualify for the playoffs. So, is it time for a spark from within?

There are two forwards currently in Bridgeport that should get a look with the big club relatively soon. Michael Dal Colle has seven goals and two assists in 15 games. Josh Ho-Sang has two goals and eight assists in 14 games. If management feels they need a playmaker to help facilitate the puck, recall Josh Ho-Sang. If management feels they need a natural goal scorer who can pounce on loose pucks and fire them home, recall Michael Dal Colle. To open up room, the Islanders could opt to shed some salary and trade a middle-six forward for a second or third round pick, allowing Dal Colle or Ho-Sang to fill the vacancy.

Both players had a goal last month against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Ho-Sang’s goal was the first of his career.

What’s the worst thing that happens, the Islanders lose? It’s not like things are going swimmingly as is. In the same breath, the season is long from over. Imagine the team goes 7-2-1 in their next 10 games. That would give them 29 points in 27 games. That means the Islanders would be on pace for 88 points—a much more respectable mark than their current pace of 67.5 points. Keeping in mind, that pace would include the team going 5-8-4 in its first 17 games—a mark the Islanders likely wouldn’t repeat if they manage to go 7-2-1 in their next 10 games.

By no means is this a guarantee, nor is it to be taken literally, but what else is left? If the Islanders don’t change something soon, it may get to the point when it is too late.
