Islanders website: Has the preview for tonight's game against the Montreal Canadians.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
One team is 7-1 and coming off a conference championship, Roman Hamrlik recently returned to the Canadians lineup. The other has it's starting goaltender out along with three of it's key defenders and significant injuries to it's forwards with the club having problems finishing among the veterans and forwards.

Isles Canadiens Pregame Thoughts

According to Pat Hickey from the Montreal Gazette [damn is that weird] former Canadien and current Islanders backup goaltender Yann Danis will get the start tonight. How this plays out tonight will be another story. At the very least, it will give Danis an opportunity to show what he’s got. Stranger things have happened before to this team and who knows. Danis could be a step above MacDonald and help this team at least get back to .500. they have a bunch of games over the next two weeks and this should be a great indication if this team is going to sink or swim this season.

Thompson, Hilbert, Park=No Youth Movement

NYI Fan Central's picture

Sorry folks, as well as Nate Thompson played for the last week this should not be Scott Gordon's only forward on the ice shorthanded in overtime.

This is a player claimed off waivers with some enforcer skills but this is not a player you look at as part of a youth movement or should be in such a critical role, he won a faceoff to clear the puck at the start of the Flyer powerplay but also fanned on a clearing attempt just before the game winner.

Islander Notables/Quick Hit

Newsday: Greg Logan in the Islanders Newsday blog reports Rick DiPietro was placed on IR effective last Sunday which means he cannot be activated until 11/2 at the earliest meaning he is out against Montreal.

Mr Logan's speculation game on his favorite target now claims the fact DiPietro was not allowed to play in the first four games of the regular season and lasted only seven periods over three games in eight days suggest he’s not in tip-top condition.

Who is in your doghouse now?

Isles Lose Barn Burner in Philly

TheDriveForFive's picture

Well, just when you think this team has a shot at squeaking out a win, they go and break your heart. Nevertheless, getting a point against a surging Flyers team after the way the game started has to be a start in the right direction.

Let’s face it, the first 20 minutes weren’t exactly pretty. While the Islanders only found themselves down 2-1, off of nasty looking goals by Mike Knuble and Jeff Carter that goalie Joe MacDonald had absolutely no chance at, Bill Guerin tallied with an impressive shot of his own that kept the Isles within striking distance. Looking horrible on faceoffs in the period, the Islanders really needed to get their legs going and get some traffic in front of the net.

Patience

It's a miracle.  The goal by Andy Hilbert vs the Flyers impressed me more than anything so far in the past two weeks.  First, he took his time and used the Philly defenseman's butt as a bumper and banked it off of him to score.  That slight delay he made gave him a better angle on the goal and allowed him to see the situation a little better.  Great play there Andy!

Isles Visit Philly, But Not For Baseball

Islesblogger's picture

I once read a post about someone who frequents blogs saying they didn’t want to hear about what was going on in that bloggers life should they happen to take a short break from the action. They would prefer the blogger just come back and not make a big deal of being busy, blog when you can. Part of me wants to ignore being busy and just pick up where I left off, the other - well I feel you are all friends and should know that my job often gets in the way.

Just to clarify Tsn.ca: the amended injury policy states clubs cannot falsify information, or misrepresent a player's condition; but teams are no longer required to disclose the specific nature of player injuries.

Isles Flyers Pregame Thoughts

TheDriveForFive's picture

With Andy Sutton in the lineup tonight, the Islanders defense should be in better shape to handle a talented Flyers team tonight that despite being without Daniel “Don’t call me Danny” Briere for the next few weeks, still has a plethora of options on offense.

Scary stuff if you ask me.
